Bloomberg Businessweek names Alan Bone Head of International Circulation

Bloomberg Businessweek has announced that it has named Alan Bone head of international circulation, a newly-created role based in London.

Alan Bone (pictured), who joins from Newsweek/Daily Beast Company where he served as the general manager of Newsweek magazine, will be responsible for driving Bloomberg Businessweek's circulation across EMEA and Asian markets. Bone will play a central role in launching Bloomberg Businessweek's two new regional editions in Europe and Asia announced last month. He will begin his new role on September 19 and will report to Alec Casey, head of worldwide circulation.

Casey said, “Alan's strong background in driving circulation across multiple platforms makes him the ideal candidate to lead Bloomberg Businessweek’s consumer growth in international markets. As we continue to focus on expanding our global reach and influence, Alan's experience will be vital to our success.”

Paul Bascobert, President of Bloomberg Businessweek, added, "A professional of Alan's caliber will be a true asset to our team at such an exciting time for the magazine. He'll be a critical contributor to our overall global growth plans."

In July, Bloomberg Businessweek announced two new regional editions in Europe and Asia and raised its rate base from 900,000 to 980,000 in early 2012. The new European and Asian editions of Bloomberg Businessweek will feature content from the global edition of the magazine combined with some additional regional reporting from more than 800 Bloomberg reporters in Europe and 500 in Asia. The global edition of Bloomberg Businessweek posted a 21% increase in advertising pages year-over-year through July 2011 (according to the Publishers Information Bureau) and the addition of 58,000 individually paid subscribers in the first half of 2011, which was up 12% versus the prior year (as filed with Audit Bureau of Circulation, subject to audit). The magazine has also revitalised local-language editions in Chinese, Thai, Indonesian, Turkish, Arabic, and a new Polish-language edition will launch later this year.

During his tenure at Newsweek/Daily Beast Company, Bone was responsible for the overall circulation strategy for Newsweek's EMEA edition. In addition, Bone managed operations, external partnerships as well as vendor relations for the publication.
