Edge celebrates 20th anniversary

Edge, Future’s multiformat title is celebrating its 20th anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, the brand has created 20 unique and collectable covers to be published in both the print and digital editions.

Designed by independent artists, game developers and Edge’s in-house art team, the covers pay tribute to the defining games of the past 20 years – ranging from Doom to Minecraft.

Other special features include:

• Leading industry figures identify the most important developments in gaming from the past 20 years.

• Sony Computer Entertainment's Mark Cerny details the creation of PlayStation 4.

• A top ten countdown of the greatest consoles in Edge's history.

• David Braben, co-creator of space trading game Elite, talks virtual reality and the enduring appeal of his classic.

• The seven games from history that should've been awarded Edge's “legendary” 10/10 status.

• Launch editor Steve Jarratt tells the story of how Edge was conceived in 1993.

• A look forward to what lies in store for the next 20 years of gaming.

Edge’s 20th anniversary is also being celebrated online, with readers collaborating to create a list of the 20 best videogames of the past 20 years. In addition, the Edge iPad container app has a host of surprises – the very first issue of Edge has been reproduced at a cost of £1.49 and readers can also download, for free, a gallery of every Edge cover ever produced.

Tony Mott, Editor-in-Chief of Edge, says: “The 20th anniversary edition represents the most striking collection of Edge covers in its history, and we’re extremely grateful to all of the artists who collaborated with us to honour two decades’ worth of landmark games. I also want to say thank you to all of the readers who’ve been with us as we’ve published 258 issues and assure them that, now that we’ve had a little bit of practice, we’re ready to produce some incredible editions of Edge in the future.”

The 20th anniversary issue of Edge is on-sale now and is available in print and on iPad and Android devices.
