Free access to Times online over Jubilee weekend

To celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, The Times and The Sunday Times are opening up their websites to everyone this weekend.

For the first time since becoming subscriber-only in 2010, the websites will be free to access this Saturday and Sunday (02/06-03/06).

As well as live global and national news and sport, the sites will feature a range of special Jubilee content, including interactive graphics and video specials, pageant boat spotter guides, photos of the Queen from the past 60 years and live updates from journalists covering the celebrations.

The open website offer is the culmination of a three-week editorial and marketing Jubilee campaign which included a 12-part collectible commemorative series charting the Queen’s reign, posters, souvenir specials and a 30,000 ticket giveaway to the Battersea Park Jubilee Festival. Further activity continues over the weekend with a large-scale street-selling operation across London, in-paper and online boat spotter guides and the inclusion of a Times and Sunday Times boat in the river pageant with subscribers on board. The campaign has been supported by News International’s Global Radio partnership with regular spots on LBC and Classic FM.

The Sunday Times app will also be available for a free trial this weekend.

Suzi Watford, Marketing Director, The Times and The Sunday Times, said: “To celebrate this historic occasion we are opening up our award-winning websites so people can access the fantastic content on offer over the weekend and experience some of the many benefits of being a Times and Sunday Times subscriber.”
