The Financial Times says the tool, available in beta, allows users to ask any question and receive a curated response using FT content published over the last two decades.
The experimental feature is the latest addition to the FT Professional offering, which equips nearly 8,000 businesses, government and education institutions around the world with tools and features that make FT journalism more personalised and actionable, added the publisher.
“The FT has a strong track record of embracing the disruption of technology, from the arrival of the internet to the mobile revolution, and now AI,” said Lindsey Jayne, FT chief product officer. “As one of the most trusted media brands in the world, we are in a unique position to mindfully engage with AI to bring value to our audience in new ways.”
“We’re always looking to add value to our FT Professional offering, and this new feature will help our subscribers to make confident strategic and commercial decisions quickly by getting answers rather than search results. It’s a perfect complement to the broader, in-depth offering our readers expect from FT news products,” said Nick Fallon, managing director of FT Professional.
The publisher says the tool is currently available to a select number of FT Professional subscribers. It is powered by the FT’s own internal search capabilities, combined with a third-party large language model.
