Gill Hudson to be new Reader's Digest editor

Gill Hudson has been announced as the new editor-in-chief of Reader’s Digest magazine in the UK.

Hudson (pictured below), currently editor of Radio Times, will take over the position from Sarah Sands by the end of the summer. She will be responsible for the UK edition of Reader's Digest. Reader’s Digest, published in 50 editions in 21 languages, is, says the publisher, the world’s largest magazine with a total readership of nearly 70 million.

Hudson is one of the industry's best-known, most successful and most respected editors. She has won both the PPA and BSME editor of the year and in previous editorial positions has also been an award-winning editor of Company and New Woman. She launched eve for BBC Magazines and the men’s magazines Maxim and Stuff for Dennis, and helped launch both titles in the States, winning another BSME award for her work on Maxim in the process. In addition, Gill was Chair of the British Society of Magazine Editors in 1993 and currently sits on the Periodicals Training Council committee, which is dedicated to raising industry standards.

Gill Hudson comments, “While I’ve had the best time of my career at Radio Times and it’s going to be incredibly difficult to leave the team and the magazine after seven extremely happy and fulfilling years, the opportunity to work at Reader’s Digest is just too good to miss. Reader’s Digest is a great and well-loved magazine brand with potential for growth, both in the UK and globally. I look forward to exploring that potential to the full.”

Chris Spratling, Managing Director of Reader’s Digest comments, “We are absolutely delighted to have secured the talents of such an experienced and celebrated editor as Gill. Her achievements across a broad range of magazines are unrivalled and we’re confident that she will make a huge impact at Reader's Digest.”
