Management changes at the Guardian

Guardian News & Media (GNM) has announced two changes to its executive team.

David Pemsel, formerly group marketing director of ITV, takes up the new position of chief commercial officer. Tanya Cordrey, currently GNM's director of digital development, is promoted to the new executive role of chief digital officer.

David will lead all of GNM's commercial operations. He has worked with GNM for a year as interim chief marketing officer, during which time he managed and oversaw the creation of a strong audience proposition. In his new role David will continue to oversee the marketing function and will additionally oversee the sales organisation, which includes Guardian Professional, business development and brand extensions, and display.

Tanya joined GNM in 2008 initially building the digital portfolio of environment products and most recently overseeing the product development team. In her new role Tanya will continue to have product oversight as well as supporting the strategic development of the organisation. She joined GNM from the start-up company Zopa.com and was previously on the UK executive team at eBay for five years.

Adam Freeman, currently GNM's executive director - commercial, leaves the company in October after 10 years. Adam is leaving to launch a digital start-up called MutualMedia.co, a consumer-led social advertising platform being created in partnership with the development agency Future Building.

Chris Pelekanou, GNM's global commercial director, also leaves the company in December, after 20 years with the company. Chris is joining advertising agency Clear Channel Outdoor as commercial director.

Andrew Miller, CEO, Guardian Media Group, said: "I am delighted that David and Tanya have joined the GNM executive. Both have worked tirelessly and with great creativity to make our digital-first strategy a reality, attract unprecedented numbers of global readers and create new revenue streams. These changes are part of our strategy to bring both GNM and GMG closer together as we build a stronger, more digitally-focused organisation.

"Adam and Chris have made huge contributions to the development of GNM's commercial operations and we wish them both the very best in their new businesses."
