MEN pulls out the stops for Ferguson autobiography launch

The Manchester Evening News pulled out all the stops for the launch of Sir Alex Ferguson’s autobiography this week, with coverage including an exclusive interview with the Manchester United legend.

As reported by the Newspaper Society: The paper sent reporters Stuart Mathieson and Paul Handler to London to cover the launch on Tuesday while the paper’s coverage included a web chat with MEN sports editor Peter Spencer and a live blog reporting all the revelations and reaction.

The paper’s online coverage also included a section with all the best lines from the book including the revelation that Sir Alex had turned down the job of England manager twice while he was Manchester United’s boss.

And yesterday (Wednesday), the MEN published a special 12 page pullout on the autobiography featuring all the revelations and reaction with 10,000 ‘Fergie’s Wrath’ billboards in the city.

The pullout featured the exclusive interviews by Stuart who covered Manchester United throughout Sir Alex’s reign and is thought to have covered more Manchester United games under his tenure than any other journalist.

Peter Spencer said of the autobiography: “What surprised me is how he has taken no prisoners and settled some old scores. He sees everything in black and white and players who crossed him have come out badly.”
