Mirror and Record launch e-editions

Trinity Mirror has launched free weekday e-editions of its flagship national titles, the Daily Mirror and Daily Record.

The interactive iPad apps will be free to UK users Monday to Friday - for international users paid-for seven-day apps are available.

The e-editions are digital reproductions of the two newspapers but also include an array of impressive features such as video, expandable articles, interactive ads, 30 day archive, automatic overnight downloads (via Newsstand) and a live news ticker, say the publishers.

Neat visual clues point readers to the interactive elements and additional content, which include:

• Video reports of news stories, film trailers and sneak peaks of the latest video games.

• Interactive pop-up crosswords (Mirror only at launch).

• Direct web links to Mirror and Record special offers, advertiser deals and additional info on horoscopes, the weather and other useful services.

• High resolution picture galleries with full Retina Display optimisation.

• The choice of 10 regional editions (Mirror only).

Lloyd Embley, editor-in-chief of the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and The People, said: “This is everything you’d expect from the Mirror and more. Visually it looks stunning and the interactivity brings a whole new depth to our content. The e-edition is brimming with the energy and creativity that will extend the reach of our journalism to new and wider audiences.”

Allan Rennie, editor-in-chief of the Daily Record & Sunday Mail, said: “The e-edition brings a different vibrancy to our paper which allows us to showcase our leading Scottish news, sport and entertainment in exciting new ways.”

Chris Ellis, Trinity Mirror’s managing director of digital, who led the development of the e-editions, said: “The app looks just like the print version but the key difference is in the touch. Significantly, this introduces a whole new level of engagement and interactivity that makes both the Mirror and Record truly relevant to the digital generation.”
