Caroline started as a trainee news reporter at the Sunday Mail in Scotland nearly 25 years ago, winning the Young Journalist of the Year award in Scotland, says Reach. She went on to hold a number of senior editorial positions for national titles including at the Sunday Mirror, Express and Daily Star, before moving to an editor-in-chief role for Reach’s magazine portfolio and then the editor-in-chief role at the Mirror.
During her time with the magazines, the publisher says Caroline spearheaded the digital transformation of OK! and created and launched the popular OK! Beauty Box, which has continued to grow since its launch.
In her time at the Mirror she has overseen a period of transformation and continued to uphold the Mirror’s roots in campaigning journalism, overseeing the award-nominated Free School Meals campaign and spearheading the Missed project, drawing attention to missing people who can often go under-reported and successfully reuniting a vulnerable teen with his family. During her editorship, the Mirror has also broken agenda-setting stories, including Rishi Sunak’s D-Day exit blunder, the Jill Dando murder new evidence probe and The Princess of Wales’ stolen medical records scandal, added Reach.
Caroline said: “I am grateful for the incredible opportunities I have had over the last 25 years at Reach, from starting as a news reporter trainee at the Sunday Mail in Scotland to editing the Mirror, the company’s flagship title.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to the fantastic journalists and editors, production and art teams, picture desk and photographers, social and video teams and the EAs who have worked alongside me in my role as Editor-in-Chief of the Mirror and magazines and throughout my career. The foundations we have built over the last two years will hopefully allow this incredible team to continue to grow the Mirror and magazine brands in an ever changing media landscape - producing high quality, trusted journalism across print, digital and video.
“I am now looking forward to my next challenge outside of the Reach family and I wish everyone the very best for a brilliant future.”
Chief Content Officer David Higgerson said: “Caroline has led the Mirror with talent, integrity, and personal commitment. Under her guidance, the title has continued to hold power to account and to produce impactful campaigning journalism that has made a genuine difference. We wish her every success in her next chapter.”
A new editor-in-chief for the Mirror will be appointed imminently.
