Appointing a third party distributor is a significant move for Newsweek, which previously handled its own distribution. The first issue distributed by COMAG Specialist goes on sale 4 January 2010.
Alan Bone, General Manager of Newsweek says, “Newsweek is very excited to be working with COMAG Specialist and feels confident that together we can grow our circulation in the British Isles. We see their expertise as crucial to growing our title in this difficult market.”
Founded in 1933, Newsweek provides comprehensive coverage of global affairs, business, society, science and technology and arts and entertainment. Headquartered in New York, Newsweek has 20 bureaus located around the world and the magazine appears in more than 190 countries. Newsweek publishes four English-language editions and is the only newsweekly with seven local-language editions – Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Polish, Arabic, Turkish and Russian. Newsweek’s circulation is over 2.5 million worldwide, with a total audience exceeding 17.5 million.
According to the publishers, Newsweek holds more National Magazine Awards, given by the American Society of Magazine Editors, than any other newsweekly. In addition, Newsweek.com provides 24-hour breaking news coverage and original content along with the entire print magazine.
Newsweek underwent a redesign earlier this year, refocusing its content and layout. The sophisticated new look “reflects the sheer quality of journalism within the pages”.
Together, COMAG and COMAG Specialist hold a strong news and current affairs portfolio. Newsweek joins a range including New Statesman, Business Week and The Spectator, while COMAG looks after Private Eye and The Economist.
