For connecting family and friends across generations with a variety of fun and simple daily games, the NYT says its Games app has been recognized as a winner in the Cultural Impact category at Apple’s 2024 App Store Awards. This award celebrates apps that deliver powerful stories and inspire users, leaving a lasting impact on global culture, added the publisher.
According to the New York Times, The App Store Awards honour the best and most impactful apps and games, showcasing developers who excel in user experience, design, and innovation. Selected by global App Store editors, the NYT says this recognition underscores its Games app’s commitment to providing players with engaging, thoughtful and playful experiences everyday.
“We’re honored to receive the Cultural Impact Award and grateful to the millions of solvers who inspire us every day,” said Jonathan Knight, head of Games at The New York Times. “This recognition fuels our commitment to crafting high-quality games that challenge the mind, connect people across generations and make every moment of play time well spent.”
In 2024, The Times says it unveiled the most significant redesign of the NYT Games app since it launched in 2009. The app, the publisher says beloved by solvers for its seamless way to access the entire New York Times Games portfolio, was reimagined to emphasize time well spent, from building vocabulary, connecting players across generations or adding smart fun to their daily routine.
Earlier this year, the NYT says its Games app was also recognized by Apple as a winner in the Delight and Fun category for the company’s Design Awards for providing memorable, engaging and satisfying experiences enhanced by Apple technologies.
The pblisher says other highlights from NYT Games in 2024 include:
- Introducing Strands: The introduction of Strands in June added a new dimension to The Times’s portfolio of human-crafted games, designed to be enjoyed by players of all skill levels for its fresh take on word searches.
- Milestone Celebrations: The Games team feted the 1,000th Wordle puzzle in March and the 10th anniversary of the Mini Crossword in September with celebrations across the country, including lighting up the Empire State Building in Wordle’s signature colors and unveiling the first-ever Mini Hall of Fame to showcase the puzzle’s fastest solvers, among other events.
The NYT says its Games app continues to deliver on its promise of time well spent, whether it’s through connecting friends and families through shared solving, or simply providing solvers with a variety of fun and simple daily games. Available on iOS devices, the app invites solvers of all levels to dive into a world of challenging and rewarding puzzles.
