Current News Ireland General Manager, Oliver Keenaghan, has decided to leave the business to explore new challenges and opportunities.
Richard has built up the commercial and corporate elements of News Scotland as General Manager, creating a well-recognised media brand with key commercial relationships, complementing the three Scottish titles, says News UK.
Commenting on his new appointment, Richard said: “In a country that is widely known for its love of news, politics, sport and music, we continue to buck the trends of other media owners in Ireland and invest in our titles and talent.
“News Ireland is a recognised force in the market and I want to build on that, maximise every opportunity, and pursue new partnerships that further build upon our reputation. I will be working very closely with the team and News Corp colleagues to ensure we are as robust as possible and capitalise on our many strengths.”
Oliver joined the company in 2008 as General Manager and has overseen some major milestones – the launch of the Ireland Edition of The Times in print and iPad, key commercial deals across News UK’s three Irish titles, and has been closely working with the Wireless Ireland teams identifying opportunities that promote the company’s multiplatform offering in the Irish market.
Commenting on his departure, Oliver said: “After ten great years with News Ireland the time is right for change in my career. It's been an amazing experience, never a dull moment and I would like to thank all my colleagues, in Ireland and the UK, who have been on this journey with me. I wish them continued success into the future and I have no doubt that they will continue to grow and develop the business.”
David Dinsmore, Chief Operating Officer, News UK, said: “Oliver gave a sterling ten years to the company and I wish him the very best of luck with his next move. Richard has already made a huge impact on our Scottish operations and I know he will have a similar one in the Irish market.
“There is a lot to be excited about across our operations in Ireland. With our Wireless Ireland colleagues, we are a truly multi-platform business; across print, audio and digital – a very effective solution for advertisers. Adding the creativity of our colleagues at Storyful and video ad tech company Unruly to this mix makes for a competitive commercial package and positive future.”
