Sara Payne and Shy Keenan join the Sun

Child protection campaigners, Dr Sara Payne MBE and best-selling author Shy Keenan, are the latest columnists to join The Sun on Sunday.

The duo, best known for their work on child protection and victim advocacy, will write an exclusive, regular column for the paper, launching on Sunday 21 October.

They will champion community heroes who are working to make a difference and fight for justice for victims of crime when they are not being heard. These are issues that Sun readers care about, says the paper.

Dr Sara Payne MBE said: “We are thrilled to be given this opportunity by The Sun, to raise awareness of issues of real importance to people, families and communities across the country. More importantly, we’re hoping to give victims a real voice on behalf of those who are too vulnerable to speak out for themselves. To be able to do this in partnership with the UK’s number one newspaper that reaches such a huge audience is a massive step forward for what we have been working so hard for years to achieve.”

Richard Caseby, Managing Editor of The Sun, said: "Sara and Shy are highly respected advocates for the rights of victims and their families. I’m very pleased that they will bring their expertise to The Sun and continue our long tradition of campaigning journalism."

Dr Sara Payne MBE and Shy Keenan have for many years run a not-for-profit consultancy and information service, The Phoenix Post, which empowers victims with the information and support they need to challenge failing system services and anti-victim prejudice. They work to develop real free victim support and advocacy services. In 2009 Dr Sara Payne MBE was appointed Victims Champion by then Justice Secretary Jack Straw.

The Sun says it is committed to championing the needs of everyday people by not only exposing the truth but also through raising awareness and money for good causes. Examples of The Sun’s investment in the communities that it serves includes Column Idol and Help for Heroes - which has raised over £120m to date.
