Tindle News appoints Hugo Berger
Hugo Berger: “I missed local journalism having started my career in regional news so working for a respected family owned business with products that are loved by the local community had a great appeal to me.”

Tindle News has announced that Hugo Berger has joined to take on responsibility for the Farnham Herald, Petersfield Post and Woking News & Mail series.

Hugo came on board in October having most recently worked as a content editor for a London-based travel company.

The new editor brings a wealth of editorial experience having worked in senior editorial roles for a range of publishers and organisations, including 16 years based in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, added Tindle News.

While living in the Middle East he held content roles at business and travel titles. Hugo was communications and PR editor at the department of culture and tourism in Abu Dhabi for four years, followed by a year as an editorial specialist at Abu Dhabi Media Office.

Originally from Devon, joining Tindle represents a return to local news for Hugo, who began his career as a reporter at regional titles in the West Country.

Tindle News says Hugo, who will support its South East journalists in delivering content across our print, digital and social media platforms, said moving to his new role had a strong appeal.

Hugo said: “I missed local journalism having started my career in regional news so working for a respected family owned business with products that are loved by the local community had a great appeal to me.

“I am looking forward to using my experience from my other roles around the world to be part of the process to enhance what we are doing editorially here.

“Having worked in PR roles I can see things from the other side in how organisations release the news and deal with journalists. I know the importance of good communications and for local organisations to build good relationships with journalists.”

Tindle News says Hugo and the team will focus on continuing to grow the multimedia news offering, he said. “I have done a lot of work in this area and I am enjoying getting into this role,” said Hugo.

“We have a strong team and our content is still widely read, with numbers which hold up within our industry. The business is well-respected locally, but our ambition is to continue to increase our reach across our print publications, websites, and social media platforms.”

Jon Gripton, Tindle deputy editorial director, said: “We are delighted to bring Hugo on board as we grow engagement across our print and digital titles. Hugo’s experience and his international perspective will be a big help as we continue to move our editorial content forward.”
