Winners shine at PPA Awards 2011

The winners of The PPA Awards 2011 were revealed on June 15 at a glittering ceremony made extra special by a surprise appearance from actor and literacy champion Henry Winkler.

Winkler (pictured), best known as Arthur ‘The Fonz’ Fonzarelli in Happy Days, took the stage at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Mayfair’s Park Lane to speak of his own struggle with dyslexia and to highlight the importance of magazines in promoting literacy among children.

He helped encourage the audience to donate to the event’s two chosen industry charities: MagAid and the NewstrAid Benevolent Fund.

Hosted by comedian Kevin Bridges, the PPA Awards brought together more than 1,000 guests from the UK’s leading consumer and business media companies to celebrate editorial and publishing excellence. A total of 22 awards were handed out on the night following two rounds of judging by 142 independent judges.

Barry McIlheney, chief executive of the PPA, said: “Congratulations to all the winners of this year’s PPA Awards, who can be proud of being singled out among a very strong field for their innovation and commitment to excellence.

“Every year the PPA Awards reminds us that the talent within our sector is truly world-class and we are proud to represent this vital part of the UK’s Creative Industries.”
