WIRED announces WIRED 2013: Next Generation

WIRED UK is launching WIRED 2013: Next Generation, a one day event curated for schoolchildren aged 12 – 16 years old.

The event will take place on 19th October and bring together innovators from the worlds of technology, science, the arts, and business to inspire, to educate and to motivate, with talks, workshops and hands-on product demonstrations.  WIRED 2013: Next Generation is an extension of WIRED 2013, the two day “haven of disruptive thinking and radical ideas” taking place at London’s Tobacco Dock on the 17th and 18th October.

David Rowan, Editor of WIRED, remarks “Our future relies on the next generation being equipped, educated and hungry to innovate, to create and to challenge.  The most important investment any industry and any country can make is in its future innovators, and this new enterprise highlights our commitment to this, and our desire to generate a public debate around accessible education for all in those areas which matter the most.”

“We are very pleased to be in a position at WIRED to bring young people together to meet the role models who show them how they too can change the world,” adds Rupert Turnbull, Publisher of WIRED.  “We believe there is an imperative to equip the children of today to feel enabled to make a positive impact tomorrow, however big or small.”

As the authority on the future, say the publishers, WIRED is uniquely placed to highlight issues which will affect our world in the years to come. Through WIRED 2013: Next Generation, WIRED sets out to raise awareness of the need for stronger science, technology, engineering, arts and maths education in Britain today, teaming up with partners including the Science Museum, Facebook, Apps for Good, Young Rewired state and Think Big Schools which will be presented by Telefonica.

WIRED UK will also be offering school children aged 12-16 years old the opportunity to win two tickets to WIRED 2013: Next Generation, with an app competition, challenging entrants to fix an unsolved problem with their app design entry.  A panel of experts including WIRED editors, Emma Mulqueeny of Rewired State, Christian Hernandez, head of Facebook in Europe, SBTV’s Jamal Edwards, along with some special guests will judge the entries. The 50 winners will win two complimentary tickets to the event and WIRED will also showcase the very best entries at WIRED 2013: Next Generation, and turn them into working apps.
