Andy Cowles to leave IPC Media

Andy Cowles, Editorial Development director of IPC Media, is to leave the company on 1 May, as part of IPC’s current restructuring programme.

Andy (pictured), who took up the post in February 2007, was responsible for the strategic development of new magazine products and brands, both print and digital, as well as for the re-development of existing IPC titles. He worked closely with IPC's learning and development department to build world-class editorial and design training programmes for IPC staff and partnered extensively with the advertising team, says IPC Media. In 2009 he was awarded the BSME’s prestigious Mark Boxer Award.

Says IPC CEO, Sylvia Auton: “Andy has made a huge contribution to our brands and has been a great ambassador for IPC within the industry. We will miss him enormously, but I know that with his experience and expertise, his skills will be very much in demand.”

Says Andy: “IPC is a fine company, and I’ll be sad to leave. But in this changing publishing landscape I’m looking forward to putting my brand development skills to new use, whether in publishing or beyond.”

Andy joined IPC in 2004, becoming a key member of the launch teams of Pick Me Up and TV easy. Since then, Andy has led the redevelopment of many of IPC’s big brands, including Marie Claire, Instyle, Look, TV Times, Ideal Home, Now, Chat, and Nuts. In addition, he worked with Time Inc. in New York, on brands including Cooking Light, Health and People.

Previously, his award-winning career in the UK and the US saw him as art director on a wide range of titles, including Q, Mojo and Empire. He ran his own consultancy from 1993-1999. Before taking up the post as IPC's creative director, Andy spent three years in the US as creative director on Condé Nast's Mademoiselle and as art director of Rolling Stone, Wenner Media's legendary music title.
