Boris Johnson to guest edit Telegraph’s Weekend section

Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, will guest edit The Daily Telegraph’s Weekend section this Saturday, 18th January as the newspaper launches its ‘Lend a Hand’ campaign, dedicated to volunteering.

Johnson will write the cover story for ‘Lend a Hand’, Weekend’s major campaign for 2014, building on the spirit of the 2012 London Olympic Games including a call to arms for major employers to allow people time off work to volunteer.

Weekend will feature interviews with celebrities who are all keen ambassadors of volunteering such as cook and presenter Thomasina Miers and fashion designer Wayne Hemingway. As part of the edition, the Mayor will also introduce Team London, his initiative to get all Londoners to give their time to do something great for their city, with a particular focus on using volunteering as a way to support youngsters to be ready for future employment.

Telegraph columnist and Chairman of the British Olympic Association, Lord Coe, will also be contributing to Weekend, where he will write about the Gamesmakers, the unforeseen heroes of the Olympics, and the importance of continuing their good work. Lord Coe will also introduce ‘Join In’, a government-funded organisation which works to raise the profile of volunteering at grassroots level, promoting sport, sporting clubs and associations.

Mark Skipworth, Executive Editor, TMG, said: “We are thrilled to be launching the ‘Lend a hand’ campaign in Weekend this Saturday, particularly with the backing of our guest editor, Boris Johnson. Boris and The Telegraph’s support for volunteering shows our continued commitment to building on the legacy of the 2012 Games and we hope to inspire our readers to volunteer.”
