Clare Balding is Stylist’s new columnist

Clare Balding, the journalist and television presenter, has joined Team Stylist as a monthly columnist.

Stylist writes: There were countless personalities to come out of 2012’s triumphant year of sport from Mo Farah to Ellie Simmonds but perhaps the most unexpected was Clare Balding (pictured). Her flawless coverage of London 2012 won her fans far outside the world of sport and her recent National Book Award for Biography Of The Year has topped off an incredible 12 months. Not only is Clare’s knowledge and passion for sport second to none, she’s also a true advocate of equality in sport, something very close to the heart of Stylist’s Fair Game For Women In Sport Campaign. So when it came to Stylist’s first ever sports column, Clare was the perfect fit. Read her first column in Stylist on 12 December 2012.

Clare Balding says: “What an honour. I'm very pleased and proud, if a little amazed. I can't quite believe 2012 has been so wonderful and has given me so many different highlights. I always say that life's an adventure but this has been the most exciting and extraordinary adventure of all. I'm looking forward to writing regularly for Stylist and hope your readers will be inspired to support or take up sport in the months to come.”

Lisa Smosarski, editor of Stylist, says: “Clare Balding’s terrifically warm, knowledgeable and straight-forward coverage of London 2012 cemented her as a national treasure and Stylist’s Woman Of The Year. That, together with her commitment to championing equality for female athletes – at the heart of our Fair Game For Women In Sport Campaign – make this incredibly in-demand lady the perfect choice for our new monthly sports column. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome her to Stylist’s team.”

Clare’s monthly column The Clare Balding Report will cover everything from the sporting events you need to watch and what she’s been getting up to over the last month, to the female athletes she wants to champion and the sexist sports commentator who got on her nerves.
