Held at the Ritz-Carlton Pudong in Shanghai, the event featured a ‘who’s who’ of 107 global fine wine producers from 15 countries and nearly 40 wine regions.
More than 500 wines were poured at the sell-out Encounter, with more than 1000 paying wine aficionados attending a Grand Tasting and several tutored tastings by Vega Sicilia, Gaja, Grange, Dom Perignon and Pingus. The star attraction was a First Growth Masterclass tasting which featured all Five Bordeaux First Growths.
Sarah Kemp, Decanter publishing director, says: “This was the first time ever that all five Premiers Crus (Châteaux Lafite, Latour, Mouton, Haut-Brion and Margaux) have appeared on stage together in Asia. It was an historic event, which sends a powerful signal about Decanter’s global reach, influence and brand positioning.”
“The audience for wine content and events in China continues to grow and we are delighted with how China has welcomed Decanter, first with our website, decanterchina.com and now with the first Decanter Shanghai Fine Wine Encounter. This is a new wine experience for this increasingly dynamic market, where no-one has attempted to put on an event of this scale or ambition before.”
Decanter has confirmed that the Shanghai Fine Wine Encounter will become an annual experience, returning to The Ritz-Carlton Pudong on Saturday 28 November 2015.
