Future London advertising restructure announced

Future plc, the international specialist media group and leading digital publisher, has appointed Rob Elms as Head of a new Central Agency Team and Nick Weatherall as Advertising Sales Director – Entertainment, overseeing the Games, Film and Music Groups.

The changes follow the appointment of James Ranson to the position of Ad-Sales Director – London. Ranson, who now heads up the entire London advertising team, has moved swiftly to make these appointments as part of his strategic plan. They start with immediate effect.

Elms (pictured on the left) will head a new six-strong agency-facing team tasked with generating print and iPad revenues across the Technology, Entertainment, Photography and Sport Groups which includes the brands T3, Total Film and Cycling Plus. The focus, says the company, will be on selling Future's valuable and hard to reach Male ABC1 audience to the agency audience across both media touch points. They will also be focused on creating new, innovative and exciting creative solutions campaigns linking the two, and working with the agency community to advance the role of iPad as a media platform. Among other achievements since joining Future in 2008, Elms made TechRadar Future’s first £1m-plus revenue generating website. He has previously worked for three different media agencies: Mediaedge, MediaCom and MediaVest.

Elms says: “If I could design my perfect job at Future it would be my new role. Building on my agency experience and knowledge of Future’s portfolios, running a team that is focused entirely on accelerating Print and iPad revenues from media agencies is a very exciting prospect. The team we have put together has vast experience in dealing with media agencies, and I'm thrilled at the potential we have to drive growth from these areas.”

Previously Advertising Sales Director – Creative, Weatherall (pictured on the right) will be replacing Elms as Advertising Sales Director – Entertainment Group, which includes the brands Total Film,CVG.co.uk and GamesRadar. He will drive forward Future’s position within the Games, Film and Music community as a leading media portfolio, with brands including Total Film, GamesRadar, PC Gamer and CVG. Working extensively with our largest entertainment clients, Weatherall will ensure further growth in Future’s core markets and create a broader commercial remit, leveraging the greatest value for Future’s partners. Weatherall has worked at Future for a total of 12 years, originally leaving in 2001 to go to Rapp Media and then TRG Strata, before returning in 2005. In 2008 he was responsible for winning the Dell account to print their UK inserts. Producing 200 million in 12 months, he increased the Design portfolio’s revenues by 34%.

Nick Weatherall says: “I am extremely excited to be responsible for driving commercial revenues for Future’s Entertainment Group. We have a fantastic stable of brands – and I cannot wait to challenge the team to take the portfolio forward.”

James Ranson adds: “In a period of such positive change and innovation at Future, it is fantastic that in Rob and Nick we have two longstanding and talented leaders with impeccable records taking on these new challenges.”

Both Elms and Weatherall will report into James Ranson.
