Guardian appoints Anna Bateson

Guardian News & Media has announced the appointment of Anna Bateson as VP, Platforms and Partnerships.

Anna will be responsible for developing and building key global partnerships including managing the Guardian’s existing partnerships with Facebook and Google as well as overseeing all the company’s rights and licensing activity. Anna will also be responsible for all commercial aspects of the Guardian's video strategy, working in partnership with editorial, product and sales to deliver an innovative and commercially viable video business plan. Anna will report to chief executive officer David Pemsel and will sit on the Guardian News & Media Executive Committee.

Anna Bateson said: “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join the Guardian, a brand I have long admired in both a personal and professional capacity, at such a time of change and possibility. The importance of the strong yet challenging relationships they are building with the key players in the platform space, combined with the momentum they are building around video, make this a role I feel extremely passionate about."

David Pemsel, chief executive officer, Guardian Media Group, added: “Anna is a real talent who has a clear understanding of the unique opportunities that our relationships with the big platforms can offer and the importance, both commercially and editorially, of video as part of the overall reader experience. I’m delighted to have been able to secure her to come and join us at the Guardian and look forward to the impact that I’m certain she’ll have.”

Anna joins the Guardian following a long and varied career in media and marketing having spent seven years at Google and YouTube, resulting in a three year stint running global consumer marketing out of their San Francisco HQ. Prior to joining Google, Anna led brand and viewer marketing at commercial broadcaster ITV and before that was VP of Marketing at MTV Networks.
