Harmsworth Media says Roland succeeds Nina Wright who has decided to step down from her CEO role after several successful years leading both New Scientist and subsequently Harmsworth Media since its launch in 2021.
In October, Nina will take on the role of chair of Harmsworth Media and shall continue to work closely with Lord Rothermere and Roland to help support the strategic growth across the business in the UK and internationally, added the publisher.
She joined New Scientist as chief executive in 2018. She has steered the publication through its acquisition by DMGT, the expansion to the US, and to its combination with ‘i’ to form Harmsworth Media.
Roland is currently the managing director of Mail Newspapers and will be appointed as the CEO of Harmsworth Media with the transition beginning September 4th, 2023.
DMGT Chairman Lord Rothermere, said: “I am immensely grateful to Nina for all her hard work and dedication in leading both New Scientist and taking ‘i’ under her wing with the formation of Harmsworth Media. She has done an excellent job of building the business to where it is today.
“Roland is a brilliant, innovative, and creative mind. With over twenty years working in the newspaper industry, combined with his instinctive understanding of our readers, he is ideally suited to champion Harmsworth Media and their print and digital products.”
Nina Wright said: “I have enjoyed my CEO role establishing Harmsworth Media enormously. It’s an absolute privilege to work on both New Scientist and i, two incredible brands that are very highly regarded, with an abundance of talent and outstanding potential.
“The time is now right for me to step back from the day to day running of the business and hand over the CEO reins to Roland.
“I can see how passionate, driven and thoughtful he is, added to his considerable experience and deep-rooted knowledge of our industry, I have no doubt that he will do an exceptional job.”
Roland Agambar said: “It's a tremendous honour to be appointed the CEO of Harmsworth Media.
“Following the peerless Nina Wright will be a huge challenge but one I am eager to undertake. I'm particularly looking forward to working with the exceptional teams on New Scientist and ‘i’ newspaper.
“I would also like to wish my colleagues on Mail Newspapers all the best for the future and will be watching with interest their continued success in the ever-evolving publishing business.”Keep up-to-date with publishing news: sign up here for InPubWeekly, our free weekly e-newsletter.
