IHT opens Dubai office

The International Herald Tribune (IHT), part of The New York Times Media Group, has opened a commercial office in the United Arab Emirates to support its growing presence in the Middle East.

Located in Dubai Media City, the new regional operation will be wholly staffed by company employees who will manage the IHT’s advertising and circulation sales and publishing alliances, as well as representing The New York Times Media Group’s advertising sales in the Middle East.

Helen Konstantopoulos, the regional managing director who will be running the operation, said: “Dubai is a vibrant and exciting place to do business and a convenient gateway for IHT and New York Times commercial activities across the region.  We have made tremendous strides in growing the IHT’s readership in the Middle East, increasing our circulation by 44% between 2008 and 2009, and we will continue to seek opportunities to expand our footprint in the region.”

The IHT, which is the global edition of The New York Times, has established printing and distribution networks in Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt and UAE ensuring timely daily delivery of the newspaper to internationally-engaged readers based in the Middle East and the many business visitors to the region.
