Jules Barton-Breck standing down as Editor of Essentials

Jules Barton-Breck, editor of Essentials, is to step down from the role and will be leaving IPC Media on Friday 24 May.

Jules (picture), who joined IPC in 2003, has edited Essentials for eight years and led the team successfully through the ‘real women’ strategy that created the title’s double-digit newsstand growth, says IPC Media. During that period she was named 2011 BSME Editor of the Year.

Prior to editing Essentials, Jules was editor of Family Circle, and before joining IPC had been an editor at Redwood, and associate editor of Prima at Hearst.

Jules says: “It has been fantastic to see my team’s hard work and passion rewarded with 10 consecutive ABC increases, various industry awards and a growing subscription base that is one of the largest at IPC. I’ve learnt so much and thoroughly enjoyed my time as an IPC editor, so resigning was a really hard decision to make. But I’m really looking forward to what awaits in the future.”

Linda Swidenbank, publishing director of Essentials and woman&home says: “Jules has led Essentials through an editorially innovative period, putting ‘real’ women firmly back into the title. She re-interpreted what the brand should deliver and sales took off as a result. It was no surprise when awards began to follow this success and at one time Essentials became the fastest growing women’s monthly title. I wish Jules the very best with her future plans.

“Essentials has a fantastic relationship with its core audience of modern women– supportive, warm and tapping in to their practical needs. We will be seeking to build on this, and recruiting a new editor to lead Essentials to its next stage.”
