Launch: Science Uncovered

Future unveils a new launch: Science Uncovered, a brand new monthly print and digital magazine celebrating popular science.

According to Future: Science Uncovered will present the world of scientific discovery in a highly impactful, exciting and accessible manner.

Interest in popular science has never been greater – from what happens when the Sun’s magnetic poles flip, to the Science of Doctor Who, and the dawn of holidaying in space with Virgin Galactic, Science Uncovered will explain and analyse all this and more in the launch issue.

Science Uncovered will be 100% science and provide those interested in popular science-related subjects with intelligent, topical and timely content delivered in an accessible format. Edited by Andrew Ridgway, former deputy editor of Focus magazine, issue one is out on 21st November, with the print edition priced £1 for the launch issue and £3.99 thereafter, and £2.49 for the digital edition.

Andrew Ridgway, says, “Our formula is simple – in-depth coverage of science brought to life by some of the biggest names in science research and broadcasting. Our contacts with the science community will ensure that we’ll be covering the most important and fascinating breakthroughs.”

Science Uncovered will boast a raft of notable and celebrated scientists and presenters as contributors to the magazine, these include:

* Dr Helen Czerski - Physicist and oceanographer based in the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research at the University of Southampton. A presenter on ‘Dara O’Briain’s Science Club’ and ‘The Secret Life of the Sun’, both on the BBC, as well as numerous other programmes

* Mark Thompson - British astronomer and presenter on the BBC show ‘Stargazing Live’

* Maggie Philbin - Founder of TeenTech, an interactive science and engineering event for teenagers, and presenter of multiple science and technology based TV programmes including the BBC’s ‘Tomorrow’s World’ and ‘Bang Goes the Theory’

* Brendan Walker - A former aeronautical engineer who is now the world's only ‘thrill engineer’. He has helped to design theme park rides, theatre and TV. He was the presenter of ‘The House the 50s Built’ on Channel 4 and has appeared on ‘Bang Goes the Theory’ and ‘The One Show’ on the BBC

Ian Robson, Head of Science Uncovered, says, “Science has never been more mainstream – it appeals as genuine entertainment to people of all ages. There is a real gap in the market for a credible, yet accessible title that celebrates the science driving forward the world we live in – and Science Uncovered will really deliver on that. With Andrew, we have one of the most respected names in science publishing; and his black book has allowed us to build a product of huge credibility that will not only be fun but educational.”

The digital edition will also be available internationally from the launch date via Apple Newsstand, Google Play and Nook.
