Maney partners with Australian university

In Maney Publishing’s first Australian publishing agreement, it is to publish War & Society: A Journal of the History of Warfare and its Impact on Society from 2010. The journal was launched in 1983 by the School of Humanities & Social Sciences, University of New South Wales, Australia.

This diverse and engaging journal is an exciting addition to Maney’s history list, and Maney looks forward to working with the University of New South Wales to increase high-quality submissions, worldwide readership, and a dynamic online presence.

“The new publishing arrangement with Maney will make War & Society more easily available for individuals and institutions around the world,” commented Editor Jeffrey Grey, University of New South Wales, Australia. “The online archive is an exciting development which will provide institutions with an unparalleled research resource in the history of war.”

War & Society publishes scholarly articles on the causes, experience and impact of war in all periods of history.

While articles dealing with the technical and operational aspects of warfare are considered for publication, the journal's main emphasis is on the broader relationships between warfare and society. The scope of articles published since May 1983 ranges in time from Ancient Greece to the 20th century, and from the USSR and Europe to North America, Asia, Africa, New Zealand and Australia.

Previous articles have covered:

* An Experiment in Political Education’: Henry W. Ehrmann, German POWs in US Reeducation Programs,

and the Democratisation of Germany after the Second World War

* The Myth of the ‘Addicted Army’: Drug Use in Vietnam in Historical Perspective

As part of Maney’s retrodigitisation project, the full back archive of War & Society from Volume 1 (1983) will be available online for institutions from May 2010. It also joins the new specialist MORE (Maney Online Research Ejournals) History Collection.
