Match Of The Day Magazine runs interactive special

This week’s Match of the Day magazine is an augmented reality issue, which comes to life on smartphones or tablets.

Match of the Day magazine has teamed up with mobile augmented reality and image recognition platform Blippar to produce a special interactive issue.

After downloading the Blippar App and pointing a smartphone or tablet at pages, readers can enjoy a host of interactive content on their device, such as:

• Taking a picture of themselves as a Match of the Day cover star.

• Creating a poster of themselves lifting the Premier League title, meeting Cristiano Ronaldo and signing for a top football club.

• Watching a host of great videos bought to life by TV’s Paz and Bez, a comic strip that brilliantly comes to life and an interactive quiz section where readers can test their knowledge.

According to Match of the Day magazine editor, Ian Foster: “We pride ourselves on bringing our readers closer to their football heroes; this week we’ve gone one step further by allowing them to photograph themselves on the MOTD cover or with their favourite stars. We know from our research that our audience uses smartphones and iPads and we’ve provided some fantastic interactive content that we hope they’ll enjoy sharing with their mates.”

According to Stephen Shaw, Blippar’s director of media partnerships: “We are delighted that Match of the Day magazine is the first youth title we are giving the full Blippar treatment to. The team have done a great job in creatively making the most of the technology and I’m sure their readers will have great fun exploring and blipping the magazine…we certainly are! Indeed in only the first two days of issue almost 20% of the total weekly circulation have already downloaded Blippar and blipped…it’s quite a stunning result.”

Match of the Day magazine consultant publisher Jaynie Bye said, “As the market leader in the youth football market, it’s great to see Match of the Day pulling off another first! Our readers will love this.”

Match of the Day magazine is on sale now, priced at £1.99.
