MNA unleashes new entertainment website for West Midlands and Shropshire

The Midland News Association, publisher of regional newspaper the Express & Star, has launched new standalone local entertainment website Native Monster.

The website nativemonster.com is aimed at younger readers living across the MNA circulation region looking to make the most of their leisure time.

It covers music, arts and culture, food and drink, events, cinema and local attractions.

The website has listings for events across the West Midlands and Shropshire, along with interviews, features and reviews.

Native Monster also features blogs, videos and photo galleries, backed with social media activity across its Twitter and Facebook pages.

Managing editor Lucy Dalton said the site aimed to inspire online readers. She said: "Native Monster will be a one-stop-shop entertainment and lifestyle website for the MNA circulation region. It offers extensive information on local events as well as delivering features, reviews and opinions on anything covering lifestyle and entertainment.

"The site will aim to give inspiration to people who are lost for things to do in their leisure time throughout the MNA region. Native Monster will build upon the audience of the flagship daily titles but will be marketed as a separate offering to the existing Expressandstar.com and Shropshirestar.com platforms."

MNA managing director Phil Inman said: “Native Monster allows us to move beyond our core brands to offer advertisers a new opportunity to engage with more local people. Native Monster will bring a new online audience to the growing MNA portfolio.”

As well as publishing the Express & Star, the MNA publishes the regional newspaper the Shropshire Star, along with a portfolio of weekly newspapers and magazines.

The portfolio will be used to promote the site, which the company hopes will appeal to readers and advertisers who go online for their entertainment information.

The MNA is planning a wider promotional campaign incorporating radio advertising to attract new users to the site, to take place over the autumn.

Native Monster was developed by MNA digital development manager Mark Cadman in partnership with Wolverhampton-based web design agency B3 Studios.

The branding for Native Monster was created by Wyatt International, the MNA’s communications partner agency.
