As a limited-run alternative to the standard issue of this month’s magazine (March), MOJO’s 2LP Vinyl Edition includes Physical Graffiti Redrawn, a new recording of the entire album by top contemporary artists on double-vinyl format, tooled to deluxe specifications, say the publishers.
The double-vinyl album is housed in a die-cut sleeve featuring a shot of Earl’s Court in 1975 – the venue for Led Zeppelin’s triumphant homecoming shows in May of that year. Images on the inner sleeves appear through the die-cut cover, replicating the effect of the original design by Peter Corriston and Mike Doud. Also included is a reproduction of the original poster for the Led Zeppelin Express, an idea devised by Zeppelin manager Peter Grant to market the Earl’s Court shows.
The Vinyl Edition magazine comes with an exclusive cover free from cover lines and featuring Jimmy Page’s signature. Inside the reader will find an in-depth, all-access 13-page cover feature in which Page relives the music and the magic, providing new insights and revelations about that heady time.
Only 5,000 copies of this edition have been produced, making this the rarest issue of MOJO ever, says Bauer Media. They will be available to purchase exclusively via the MOJO website from Monday 23 February.
MOJO has produced similar limited edition vinyl recordings for iconic artists such as The Beatles (2010) and Pink Floyd (2011).
Editor-in-chief Phil Alexander commented: “Physical Graffiti is one of rock's genuine landmark albums – musically, emotionally and visually speaking – and we wanted to pay tribute to that record. The original idea was to simply create a CD version of the album but it was actually Jimmy Page who asked whether we'd consider producing a vinyl version. Once we'd told him we were into it, it was impossible not to actually get on and do it. That meant producing a double vinyl album with a die-cut sleeve which matched the impact of the original. The end result is simply something that we wanted to own ourselves. That led us to believe that may be 5000 people like us."
