Nottingham Post appoint new editor

Mel Cook, currently editor of the Scunthorpe Telegraph, has been appointed editor of the Nottingham Post.

Mel (pictured) began his career at the Pontefract and Castleford Express. Since then he has held positions in Derby and South Wales rising to deputy editor of the Hull Daily Mail in 1999.

In 2008 he took up his first editorship at the Scunthorpe Telegraph and in August 2011 he was instrumental in the move from a daily to weekly publication.

Steve Hollingsworth, Nottingham Publisher said: “I am delighted to welcome Mel to the Nottingham business. Mel is an editor of the highest calibre who will be bringing a wealth of experience to the editorial team at the Nottingham Post. He has an enormous amount to offer both the paper and the wider community. I’m looking forward to working closely with Mel in his new role.”

Mel Cook said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be appointed editor of the Nottingham Post. It is an incredible opportunity and I am looking forward immensely to working with and developing the talented editorial team at the newspaper. Retiring editor Malcolm Pheby has made a huge impact at the Post and is a very tough act to follow, but I am relishing the challenge. It will be a wrench to leave the team in Scunthorpe who have achieved so much in the past year, but opportunities like this do not come along very often.”

Mel will start on the 8th May 2012.
