Oneshot: Home Sewn Style

Home Sewn Style, from Practical Publishing International, is “aimed at providing sewing skills and inspiration for all abilities”. It goes on sale 14 November, priced £7.99.

According to distributors COMAG: The renewed interest in craft skills and a growing movement away from mass-produced goods and a resurgence in make-it-yourself products recent times has led to a renaissance of sewing in the UK, fuelled in part by the success of the BBC television series The Great British Sewing Bee.

Having conducted a survey earlier this year, Practical Publishing International found that 90% of readers of craft magazines sew, but only 12% of them consider themselves experts at the skill.

This means that there is a real need for a magazine that provides clear explanations of sewing techniques and inspirational ideas to create beautiful clothes, accessories, homewares and more.

With 132 pages and 35 clear step-by-step projects, Home Sewn Style answers this call and is packed with illustrated sewing tutorials and on-trend ideas for sewing, upcycling, swishing and customising outfits, furnishings and decorations. It will also have a large garment and accessories section with everything needed to make stylish projects for the home and for children.

Home Sewn Style will feature advice from ‘refashion’ gurus Janine Chisolm and Charlotte Liddle, as well as the team behind the hugely popular Simply Homemade magazine to be accessible for both the novice sewist and the more experienced seamstress alike.

Full of quick and easy makes such as fabric earrings and a tea towel topknot, customising tips for transforming a strapless dress, cropping a denim jacket and making a cute coin purse, to creating super furnishings and making art for the nursery wall, Home Sewn Style has it all.

As well as all the tuition, guidance and inspirational ideas, Home Sewn Style also has a reader competition to win a fantastic Janome sewing machine worth £400!
