Rob Taylor announces retirement

Rob Taylor, the Editor of the Black Country Bugle, retires this week after 33 years with the publication.

The Bugle was founded in 1972 by his late father, Harry. Rob joined the team in 1980 as Deputy Editor, taking over as Editor twenty years ago. He has worked on all aspects of the paper, mainly in editorial, but also in the early days in advertising sales, promotion and distribution.  With Rob at the helm, says Local World, the legends and history of the Black Country have been captured and retold every week in the columns of the Bugle, which has always encouraged editorial input from its readers, in the form of handed down stories, personal memories and old photographs.

Rob said, "The Bugle has been described as unique and encyclopaedic in its content, and that is how I am pleased to leave it now, a much respected publication at the heart of our region.”

Penny Whitelock, Publisher, Staffordshire Newspapers said: “Rob has preserved the local issues faced by the Black Country over many decades. The Black Country Bugle continues to enjoy a loyal weekly readership in excess of 11,000, an achievement to be recognised and respected.”

Gavin Jones who is currently a Senior Reporter at the Black Country Bugle and has worked alongside Rob for the past fifteen years has been appointed Acting Editor with immediate effect.
