Ruth Wyatt appointed Brand Editor of PRWeek

The Brand Republic Group of Haymarket Business Media has concluded its search for a new editorial lead for PRWeek with the appointment of Ruth Wyatt, who currently runs her own PR, strategic communications and marketing consultancy business.

Wyatt, who joins the market leading title on April 2, has over two decades of experience as a journalist and editor as well as many years as a PR consultant.

The appointment completes Haymarket’s restructure of editorial management within the division, which has seen the creation of brand editor roles designed to reflect the increasingly multi-channel nature of professional publishing. Haymarket is one of the leading digital publishers in the UK and continues to invest in delivering content wherever and however readers require it, says the company.

Wyatt comments: “Journalism and PR are experiencing unprecedented change. I’ve been on both sides of the desk so I know the challenges we all face. As a comms person the big issues include how do you measure PR performance and effectiveness? How do you get board level buy-in? And what about dealing with the velocity and volume of information through digital media? As a journalist, we need to anticipate and fulfil readers’ changing needs. I can’t to get stuck in with the great team at PRWeek.”

Group publishing director Richard Watts comments: “Ruth was a natural for the brand editor job. She comes directly from the sharp end of PR, backed by years of solid experience as a writer and editor. We are delighted to have her passion and drive as we set about providing readers with what they want, how they want it.”

A former editor of Brand Strategy and features editor of Sunday Business, Wyatt was a staffer on Marketing magazine in the 90s and worked as a freelancer on Haymarket titles including Campaign and PRWeek. She spent many years writing business stories for national papers, such as the Sunday Telegraph and Independent on Sunday. Prior to setting up her own business last March, she was global communications director of design firm Blue Marlin.

Haymarket replaced the traditional editor’s role with that of brand editor in December. Former PRWeek editor-in-chief Danny Rogers became brand editor of Campaign and Media Week (while remaining editor-in-chief of the BR Group), while Claire Beale, who had been editor of Campaign, took up the brand editor’s mantle at Marketing.
