Sharon Reid is appointed editor of Yours magazine

Sharon Reid has been appointed as Editor of Yours magazine, replacing Valery McConnell who has been in the position for ten years.

Currently Deputy Editor of Yours, Sharon is the longest serving member of the magazine team. She will take up the position on 1st January 2014 reporting to Liz Martin, Publisher of Bauer Media’s Women’s Specialist titles.

Liz Martin commented: “Sharon has an amazing, encyclopaedic knowledge of and deep passion for the magazine and is involved in every aspect of the brand across all of its businesses, from the Yours Yearbook to Yours Puzzles. She has been championing yours.co.uk for many years and in her new role, she will be key to the evolution of the brand in the digital world.”

Despite having made the decision to step back from the day-to-day running of the title Valery McConnell will take on a consultancy role as Editor-at-Large of Yours. She will work from home for two days a week and will still take responsibility for the nostalgia content in the magazine and Meeting Place, the heart of the magazine, where readers can send in anything from letters and reminiscences to photos and poetry.

Valery began her Bauer career as Editor of Pregnancy & Birth magazine in 1997. She took over as Editor of Yours in 2003 when it was still a monthly title. In 2007, the year she won both Emap and BSME Editor of the Year Awards, Valery oversaw the successful move to fortnightly frequency.

According to Bauer, Yours magazine sells 274,030 each fortnight (Jan-Jun 13 ABC) continues to go from strength to strength thanks to its deep emotional connection with its 50+ readers. This connection has enabled the Yours brand to continue to expand into every aspect of its readers’ lives, from events such as the well-established Yours Live and the exciting new Dancing with Yours weekender.
