SoE elects 'digital' President

Nick Turner, Digital Strategy Manager of the Cumbria-based CN Group has been appointed the President of the Society of Editors.

Turner succeeds Doug Wills, Managing Editor of the London Evening Standard and Independent titles at the close of this week’s annual conference in London, following the Society’s annual meeting at the start of the conference on Sunday. He was the unanimous nomination of the board of directors.

Turner founded the Digital Editors' Network with Francois Nel of the University of Central Lancashire which connects journalists from the national and regional press and the online sector. He had nearly 20 years’ experience working for the group’s newspapers in Barrow and Carlisle before moving into his online role, runs the Cumbria Live what's on website and in-Cumbria business website along with other digital projects.

The annual general meeting also saw Ian MacGregor, Editor of The Sunday Telegraph elected to the board of the organisation. Jonathan Grun, a former twice past President of the Society and Emeritus Editor at the Press Association was approved as chairman of the organisation’s parliamentary and legal committee while Graham Dudman, consultant at News Associates and former Managing Editor of The Sun, was approved as chairman of the training committee.
