The 2025 Newspaper Awards celebrated the printed newspaper in an evening at London Hilton Bankside.

The 2025 Newspaper Awards: winners announced
Gary Cullum: “This year’s winners showcase the resilience and innovation of the industry, adapting to new challenges while upholding the highest editorial standards.”

The Newspaper Awards says around 300 guests gathered as newspapers and print teams of the past year were honoured.

The National Newspaper of the Year award was shared for the first time, with The Daily Telegraph and The Times emerging as joint winners. Judges commended The Daily Telegraph’s striking front pages, confident editorial style, and sharp print quality, while The Times was praised for its seamless blend of news, opinion, and analysis, delivered with impeccable design and clarity.

Gary Cullum, director of The Newspaper Awards, commented: “Our newspapers and news brands have been an essential part of UK and Irish life for more than 200 years. Despite digital disruption, print remains a cornerstone of trusted journalism, with many readers valuing the authority and depth it provides. This year’s winners showcase the resilience and innovation of the industry, adapting to new challenges while upholding the highest editorial standards.”

FT Weekend secured its third consecutive win for Weekend Newspaper of the Year, impressing judges with its heavyweight content, stunning design, and business-savvy approach. The Observer and iWeekend were also recognised for their compelling content and clean, navigable layouts.

Among regional newspapers, the Yorkshire Post took home Regional Daily Newspaper of the Year, with judges applauding its bold editorial stance, visual impact, and growing influence in Yorkshire.

The International Newspaper of the Year award went to Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung (Germany). Judges commended FAZ for its editorial values, depth and timeless sophistication making it one of Europe’s most respected newspapers.

The Hyperlocal Newspaper of the Year category continues to thrive, with The West Dorset Magazine taking the top award. Judges were captivated by its engaging design, witty editorial style, and balanced advertising approach.

Printing quality was also a focus, with Newsprinters Holdings Broxbourne claiming National Newspaper Printer of the Year for its sharp, clean, and consistent production of The Times. Discovery Print won Newspaper Employee/Team of the Year for its heatset printing project, which has opened new revenue streams for newspaper publishers.

The newspaper supplement categories saw strong competition, added the organisers, with LUXX (The Times) winning National Supplement/Magazine of the Year (Non-Weekly) and Saturday (The Guardian) taking the weekly category. Judges highlighted their compelling content, innovative layouts, and commercial success.

Niche Market Newspaper of the Year award went to First News, the UK’s leading newspaper for young readers, praised for its engaging design and accessible content.
