United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), a university in UAE, and international research publisher Taylor & Francis have announced a new three-year transformative agreement. Researchers at UAEU can now choose open access (OA) in over 2,500 journals, boosting the potential reach and impact of their work.

The new read and publish agreement, Taylor & Francis’ says its first in UAE, will support the University’s mission to provide impactful societal and research contributions, by ensuring everyone everywhere can access the latest UAEU research outcomes. Corresponding UAEU authors will be supported to publish open access articles in all Taylor & Francis and Routledge journals, both hybrid and full OA.

In addition, the publisher says UAEU researchers and students will also have access to read the latest research published in every Taylor & Francis journal.

Carolyn Kirby, VP commercial lead EMEA at Taylor & Francis, outlined the impact this agreement will make: “UAEU is one of the top research institutions in the Middle East, with leading academic programs across a wide range of fields tackling today’s challenges. We’re therefore delighted that this open access partnership will enable everyone to read and apply the work of UAEU’s world-class researchers.”

Dr Naeema Alhosani, acting library director at UAEU, said: "We are proud to partner with Taylor & Francis in this transformative open access agreement. As a leading research institution in the region, UAEU is dedicated to enhancing the reach and impact of our scholarly work. This partnership not only aligns with our mission to foster research excellence but also substantially enhances the accessibility of our research outputs worldwide. This agreement highlighted the strategic partnerships and the benefits derived from collaborative efforts involving publishers, library and research services, and facilitating agents like Knowledge E.”

Amina Itani, E resources and research services library expert at UAEU Libraries, added: "Our partnership with Taylor & Francis represents a major milestone in our ongoing efforts to cultivate a flourishing ecosystem for academic research and scholarly communication. The read and publish, transformative agreement enables us to significantly improve the accessibility and dissemination of research produced at UAEU, as we actively navigate the landscape of open access. We are honored to be pioneers in the region, leading the charge towards greater academic openness and collaboration."
