Wolfgang oversees Condé Nast’s markets within Asia, Europe, and Latin America and runs various global functions of the company, such as Product and Technology, Data, Licensing, Delivery and Business Transformation, as well as Global Content Operations.
A champion of the circular economy and climate change, Wolfgang has been successful in putting these important areas on the agenda of his peers globally, says the company. He has discussed redesigning growth in the fashion industry, and the role media companies have to play in tackling these issues.
“For many years now, I have been studying the excellent reports and research papers of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation to educate myself about the global climate crisis and business strategies for a circular economy. It is an honour to now become a Trustee member on the board of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and I am thankful for this opportunity to support the foundation’s work globally," said Wolfgang Blau.
Wolfgang has previously served as Executive Director of Digital Strategy at The Guardian, and as Editor-in-Chief at Zeit Online – a position which won him Germany’s Chief Editor of the Year Award. Prior to that, he worked for several years in the San Francisco Bay Area as a Technology and Media reporter.
As Trustee, Wolfgang will bring valuable knowledge and guidance to the Foundation, particularly on global media trends, the state of the fashion industry, and new collaboration opportunities as a result of his vast network.
Dame Ellen MacArthur said: “We are thrilled to have Wolfgang Blau on board as a new Trustee at the Foundation. By bringing his vast experience both in the media industry and in climate change related issues, he will be able to provide invaluable knowledge and guidance to the Foundation. Global media trends, the state of the fashion industry, and how to shift the system are all subjects which I very much look forward to discussing with him, all as part of the journey to influencing a global transition to a circular economy.”
Wolfgang will join the Foundation’s three other trustees alongside Andrew Morlet, CEO and Dame Ellen MacArthur, Founder and Chair of Trustees, in overseeing the Foundation’s mission to accelerate the transition to a circular economy.
