The publisher is expecting the August issue of Y&Y to be a huge success, offering readers more for their money at a crucial time for sailing enthusiasts. Sales of Y&Y are traditionally strong at this time of year, with the Island Race and Cowes Week taking place - two major events in the sailing calendar.
Commenting on the acquisition, Editor, Gael Pawson, says, “… by merging the two titles we will be able to ensure that existing subscriptions are honoured and readers continue to receive a magazine with comprehensive dinghy coverage. In addition, we can continue to invest in high quality content, as we have done since we took on Yachts And Yachting last August.”
The purchase allows GNM Media to push ahead with its “extensive” investment programme to build circulation, which kicked off in April this year. As Gael explains, “We are working in close collaboration with all Dinghy’s writers, including Pete Vincent, Pete Barton and David Henshall, plus Jon Emmett and Mark Rushall, who were already regular contributors for Y&Y.
“In addition, Y&Y’s own dinghy-focused writers - Andy Rice, Jeremy Evans and Paula Irish - ensure the coverage of dinghy content is strong. Add in top sailors like Stuart Childerley as well as the names of Bob Fisher, Andi Robertson, Louay Habib and Justin Chisholm and the result will be an even stronger read, which ensures the UK continues to lead the way in its coverage of competitive sailing in print as well as on the water.”
Summer is the busiest time for the UK sailing season. With championships up and down the country - and the inspiration of our sailing stars competing abroad - there are more people taking to the water with a keener interest in the sport than ever before.
The August issue of Y&Y includes a full report on the Round the Island Race, as well as a guide to Cowes Week and is always one of the biggest selling issues of the year.
