ABC statement from New! magazine

New! Magazine has released the following statement to accompany yesterday’s release of the July-December 2009 ABCs:

new! magazine overtakes rivals Closer and Heat to become Britain’s number one celeb mag, and increases its lead over Now.

The latest ABC figures, released today, reveal that Northern & Shell's new! magazine is now the UK’s best-selling celebrity weekly, with an average of 600,741 copies sold each week compared to Now’s 394,130, Heat’s 458,858 and Closer’s 539,135.

new!, which has been outselling Now for a year, leapfrogged over Closer and Heat into first place, increasing its period on period sales by a massive 50.1 per cent, and also posting a 35.6 per cent year on year jump.

new!’s success is all the more impressive given the competitiveness of the market place during last year’s credit crunch, which saw our main rival Now fall 9.1 per cent year on year.

new! puts its success down to its established combination of breaking news, exclusive interviews, celebrity columnists and true life stories, all for just 90p a week.
