Bauer Media strengthens senior music content team

Phil Alexander, editor-in-chief of MOJO and Kerrang! magazines, has assumed additional responsibility for music monthly Q, extending his remit across Bauer Media’s music brands.

Phil said: “Q plays a huge role to play in UK music and there’s more that it can do. We expect it to grow and evolve. I look forward to helping Matt Mason and a team that is full of talented people do that.“

Senior Editor Matt Mason, who has been working closely with Bauer’s Executive Content Director Jane Johnson in leading the Q editorial team, will continue to run the day-to-day on the magazine and will now report to Phil.

Phil’s appointment also marks the development of a senior music content team consisting of Q Senior Editor Matt Mason, MOJO Senior Editor Danny Eccleston and Kerrang! Editor James McMahon. This team will work to reinforce Bauer’s position as the dominant publisher in the UK music market, says Bauer Media.

“No one reaches more music fans in the UK than Q, MOJO and Kerrang!. The three brands are the crown jewels of UK music publishing and we believe that there are a large number of opportunities for all three,” says Phil. “Our aim is to examine these and to ensure that we are making new things for audiences that truly love music.”

Phil and the team will also ensure that Bauer’s portfolio of music magazines collaborates with the company’s portfolio of rock radio stations which includes Absolute, Planet Rock and Kerrang! Radio.

“There are lots of opportunities to work with our colleagues in radio and to create genuinely unique programming based on high quality editorial,“ says Phil who currently presents MOJO Rocks, a weekly show on Planet Rock. “Once again, Bauer is a unique position to deliver genuinely exciting cross-platform ideas.”

Bauer’s senior content team will offer more effective content and commercial solutions for artists, labels and clients across its entire music magazine portfolio which, according to Bauer Media, remains unmatched in the UK publishing industry, both in terms of reach and market-leading positions.

“It’s as simple as this: when it comes to music, you should talk to us at Bauer because we know how to help you and spread the word,” concludes Phil.

Phil assumes his new role with immediate effect, reporting to Publisher David Bostock.
