BBC to launch ZingZillas mag

BBC Magazines is to launch ZingZillas Magazine, an “innovative” new children's title that aims to inspire pre-school children to make their own music and to help them learn about a wide variety of music styles and instruments.

Based on the landmark CBeebies TV series, which launched in April 2010, the magazine will feature primate characters Zak, Tang, Panzee and Drum, members of music sensation ZingZillas who create their unique 'ZingZilla' sound. The characters live on a tropical island that is also visited by different musical guests from around the world, including cellist Julian Lloyd Weber and Stuart Zender, former bassist from Jamiroquai. ZingZillas is currently one of the top rated shows on CBeebies.

The three-weekly title will launch in early September 2010 and will be targeted at 3-6 year olds, with its core age 4-5 year olds.

The magazine will be packed with ideas and activities to introduce young children to new sounds, new instruments and musical ideas to encourage them to develop their skills and their love of music. ZingZillas Magazine will carry cover-mounted gifts based on making sounds, role play and performance such as a percussion kit, trumpet, harmonica and inflatable guitar, as well as stationary and stickers.

Pauline Cooke, publisher of BBC Magazines' Pre-school titles, said: "We're delighted to be launching ZingZillas Magazine which follows hot on the heels of the success of the CBeebies show. Like the programme, the magazine uses the ZingZillas’ fun and energetic characters to inspire children to learn more about music. We’re confident that children and their parents will love this exciting new addition to BBC Magazines' pre-school portfolio."

ZingZillas magazines will be priced at £2.50 and will be available through all major retailers and independents around the UK.
