The Annual Awards are the biggest BSME event of the year, celebrating a year of editorial excellence across digital and print publications.
This year, all the winners received a Marks & Spencer hamper.
The event, which was filmed during lockdown and powered by software from Evessio, was hosted by BSME Chair Maria Pieri and Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo. There were also special guest appearances from Alan Titchmarsh, Bryony Gordon, Charley Boorman, Ellie Goldstein, Jeremy Leslie, Jessica Morgan, John Simpson, Julia Bradbury, Kate Garraway, Phillipa Found, Piers Morgan, Sabrina Ghayour, and Steve McCurry. BSME Committee members Andrea Thompson, Dan Green and incoming BSME Chair Hattie Brett also presented a category each.
There were 32 categories including two new awards; ‘Editor of the Year – Editor-in-Chief/Editorial Director,’ to celebrate those who oversee more than one publication, and the ‘Special Recognition 2020 Award, ‘reflecting the hardship of 2020 and the brands that went above and beyond for their readers.
Maria Pieri, BSME Chair 2020 and National Geographic Traveller (UK) Editorial Director, said: “It’s been incredible to oversee such an outstanding body of work from the whole industry sector – what an achievement despite these challenging times. I am humbled by the talent, tenaciousness and creativity of our industry. Congratulations to all the winners, highly commended and everyone who partook in the Awards!”
