The Visual Arts Foundation has announced that it has digitised the complete archive of its publication C Magazine with content management platform, Exact Editions. Individuals and institutions can now subscribe for fully-searchable access to over 150 issues, dating back to 1984, with new issues published three times a year.
Toronto-based C Magazine, functions as a platform for critical debate about visual art and culture. Each issue explores a theme that is singularly engaged with emerging and prevailing perspectives through original art writing, criticism, and artists’ projects, added the publisher. The content focuses on the activities of Canadian art practitioners both living in Canada and abroad – with an emphasis on those from Black, Indigenous, diasporic, and other equity-seeking communities – as well as on international practices and dialogues.
The Exact Editions interface organises issues into stacks by decade and year to facilitate easy navigation, whilst the advanced search function allows visual arts professionals, professors, and students alike to search for specific keywords and articles, the publisher continued.
The Exact Editions Universals Service allows C Magazine to sell their own 'Print + Digital' subscriptions that are enabled through Exact Editions' authentication technology; subscribers can use their print subscription number to register for digital access.
Director of C Magazine, Kate Monro, commented: “We’re excited for C Magazine to reach new audiences through digital subscriptions. The Exact Editions’ Universals Service, in particular, has allowed us to add to our print subscription offering.”
Managing Director of Exact Editions, Daryl Rayner, said: “We’re pleased to be preserving C Magazine’s digital archive. It’s a valuable tool for artists, curators, critics, dealers, collectors, academics, and students alike.”
