Editorial changes at Weight Watchers

River has announced that Mary Frances, editor of Weight Watchers magazine, has been promoted to Editorial Director for the group in recognition of her work both in the success of the UK edition and the development of the 7 new international editions launching in 2012.

Mary Frances says: “Weight Watchers is an incredible success story and increasingly relevant across Western Europe and indeed the world. I am very proud of my team who work incredibly hard to deliver the agenda setting UK edition and we look forward to similar success internationally.”

Elizabeth Egan, VP Products & Licensing (Weight Watchers UK, Germany, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, Vikt-Vaktarna (Sweden/Denmark), Entulinea (Spain)) says: “I am delighted that we are able to replicate the successful model of the UK magazine and roll it out across our International markets, with the experienced team at River"

The 7 new international editions are:

Germany – re-launch

Netherlands – re-launch

Belgium – Dutch and French editions – re-launch

Switzerland – French and German editions – re-launch

Sweden – new launch

Each edition will be supported with a trade marketing campaign and in the case of the Swedish launch, with a discounted cover price. In every region, the magazine will appear on the newsstand within women’s general interest sections and will also be available through Weight Watchers meetings.

The editorial mix for each edition will echo the successful editorial pillars and brand values of the UK and French editions including successful Weight Watchers slimmers, recipes, fashion, beauty and well-being.

Mary will be joined next week by Deputy Editor Charlotte Bradshaw formerly Deputy Editor on Zest and She at Hearst Magazines.

Jane Wynn Editorial Director for River says: "Mary is a fantastic asset to River with her wealth of experience. This promotion is richly deserved in recognition of the work she has done to develop the Weight Watchers Magazine UK edition as well as the tireless development work she has done for our 7 new international editions of Weight Watchers Magazine.”

Siriliya Nawalkar, Group Account Director and Publisher, says: “under Mary’s leadership, we’re sure that our new editions will enjoy similar success to that of River’s most recent International venture; Weight Watchers France which has been one of the most successful women’s interest launches in France this year. Well done Mary.”
