Empire launches into US with iPad edition

Empire, the movie magazine, has announced it is to enter its sixth global market with the launch of the Empire U.S. iPad edition.

Headlining its international portfolio, this brand new, bespoke edition will tap into the large pool of passionate iPad owning film enthusiasts in the U.S. and the growing consumption of magazines through digital forms. Empire U.S. will look to build on the near 500,000 monthly unique users that already visit the brand online in the U.S.

The U.S. iPad edition, which follows the same blueprint as the U.K. version (launched in December 2010) will be a fully interactive app featuring embedded film trailers and offers innovative and attractive advertising capabilities alongside in-depth behind-the-scenes features and unrivalled access to iconic A-list film stars. Editorial will be tailored to the U.S. market with a team on board to deliver unique and localised content, catering to different release dates, as well as digital download and streaming reviews.

Launching on May 31 in the Apple Newsstand with Empire’s July 2012 issue, the iPad edition has been designed to fully utilise the next generation of display offerings from Apple’s new iPad and will debut with an exclusive front cover from Christopher Nolan’s upcoming summer blockbuster, The Dark Knight Rises.

The new app will be supported with a highly targeted marketing campaign, reaching film fans and iPad owners in the U.S. via a multi-layered digital marketing campaign.

Empire U.S. forms part of a brand e-publishing and multi-channel international strategy amplifying Empire’s position as the world’s biggest movie magazine, says Bauer.

Rimi Atwal, Publishing Director at Bauer Media for Empire, said: “We are thrilled to be launching the Empire brand into the U.S. market and this bespoke iPad edition of the magazine will appeal to the reams of passionate, enthusiastic and influential film fans across the country. As an authoritative film brand Empire has long delivered an engaging and unrivalled experience for movie fans, and we are delighted to be bringing a U.S. movie magazine back to the home of movies.”

Christopher Nolan, Director, The Dark Knight Rises, commented: “Empire Magazine has always set an extremely high standard in giving moviegoers an in-depth look behind the scenes of their favourite films. As a long time Empire reader, I am proud that they have chosen 'The Dark Knight Rises' to spearhead their launch in the U.S.”

Empire is now published in six territories across the world.
