Entries now open for The 2013 Newspaper Awards

Entries are now open for The 2013 Newspaper Awards, the industry awards dedicated to news media production. The Awards carry a new theme for 2013 – Celebrating success in news media.

Gary Cullum, director of The Newspaper Awards, says: "The excellence of newspaper production, both in print and online, will always be very important in the judging process of The Newspaper Awards entries.

"However, The Newspaper Awards team, in consultation with senior executives from the industry, felt that the Awards should also concentrate on celebrating how newspapers are succeeding against the odds. It's not just about having a wonderful looking newspaper, it's even more critical to publish news media products that are successful in an era which sees our industry being attacked from many different angles.

"Not only are the Internet and new digital technologies having a profound influence on the very future of newspapers but recent events such as the Leveson Inquiry are casting a negative shadow over the industry as a whole.

"Despite this, I know that the people in our industry are resilient and skilled enough to move forward. We may see a very different looking industry in a few years time but at its core will be what we do best - producing world beating news media products that set the standards for others to follow."

This year, the Newspaper Awards features 18 categories designed to showcase the best in both printed and digital media. A new category designed to showcase innovation in print has been introduced for 2013 – Printed Innovation of the Year. Following the successful launch of a photography category in 2012, this year it is now sponsored by new sponsor Getty Images.

Closing date for entries is 11 February 2013 and the winners will be announced on 24 April 2013 at the Awards dinner held at the London Hilton.
