From January the Express has been building up its US content and audience but this marks the first time content for the Express’s American audience has been given its own home.
A launch team of UK-based journalists, from the Express UK and other Reach titles, have been seconded to Reach’s New York office space. The site is currently staffed by a team of approximately 50 in total across both the US and UK, with ongoing editorial recruitment now focusing on American candidates, say the publishers.
Earlier this year, Reach launched IrishStar.com and later this summer the Mirror will also launch its own ‘.com’.
The Express site is being led by US Editor Karl Holbrook and overseen by Express Digital Editorial Director Liz Hazelton and Group Editor-in-Chief Lloyd Embley.
Group Editor-in-Chief Lloyd Embley said: “It’s brilliant to see all of the team’s hard work resulting in this important milestone.
“With its proudly mainstream news agenda, including covering the worlds of showbiz, royals, TV, tech, travel and sport as well as centre-right politics, we know there’s a huge appetite for Express content in the US. We are excited about meeting this need and growing a significant new audience.”
Stories from its first fortnight online include exclusive interviews with former national security advisor John Bolton, and with astronaut Chris Hadfield, and with foreign secretary James Cleverly, as well as several comment pieces from former Ronald Reagan staffer Peggy Grande.
