The Times and Sunday Times have announced The Tech Podcast from The Times, a new weekly global podcast that dives deep into the latest trends and innovations in technology.
Hosted by two of some of the most respected tech journalists on both sides of the Atlantic—Danny Fortson and Katie Prescott—the publisher says the show promises to bring listeners the inside scoop on the technologies that are transforming our world.
Danny Fortson, the US West Coast correspondent for The Sunday Times since 2017 and host of the long running podcast, Danny in the Valley, will bring his expert analysis and deep connections within Silicon Valley to provide insight into the world of tech giants and disruptive startups.
Commenting on the new show, Danny said: "Tech is reshaping every corner of our lives, from the way we work to how we communicate, live and connect. I’m excited to join forces with Katie to give listeners a truly unique peek behind the curtain, with interviews of the most innovative and interesting entrepreneurs and executives on both sides of the Atlantic."
From London, Katie Prescott is the technology business editor at The Times and a weekly columnist in the business section. With over a decade of experience at the BBC, including as a business news presenter on Radio 4’s Today programme, Katie offers an understanding of how the digital world impacts business, media, and telecommunications across the UK and beyond.
Katie remarked: “Technology is not just a Silicon Valley story—it's a global one. I’m thrilled to be co-hosting The Tech Podcast and exploring how tech developments across the world are impacting our everyday lives, industries, and the economy. I’m a huge fan of Danny’s work and it’s an exciting prospect to have these kinds of conversations about tech stories across the pond, to share perspectives.”
Each week the publisher says The Tech Podcast from The Times will feature interviews with tech pioneers—from startup visionaries to industry leaders. The podcast will cover a wide array of topics, from artificial intelligence to inventions, offering listeners an inside look at how emerging technologies are changing industries, reshaping society, and altering the global economic landscape.
Stephen Titherington, editor of Times podcasts said: "Danny and Katie bring an unbeatable blend of expertise, and curiosity, tools you need to understand tech and explain tech. Many people feel either fascinated by the possibilities of tech or wary of the risks. These are two journalists who can balance both views to help us deal with tech whoever you are and wherever you are."
In the first episode Danny joins Katie in London at the annual The Times Tech Summit, and includes a session with DeepMind chief Sir Demis Hassabis who explains that AI will be 'incredibly positive' for the world, with the potential to 'have general human cognitive abilities within ten years.' But do we really understand what AI is? The publisher says Danny debates this with Professor Neil Lawrence (professor of Machine Learning at Cambridge University), Marc Warner (CEO & co-founder of Faculty AI) and Naila Murray (director of AI Research at Meta). And Danny and Kate ask whether AI mania is more about money than the mind?
